After ten years of dedicated service to the people of the Diocese, Thomas Flood moves on to continue his ministry to the Church as Vice President of Development for St. Francis College. Thomas had served as Director of Stewardship and Development, Executive Director of Alive in Hope Foundation, President of Futures in Education and Board Member of the Futures in Education Endowment effort, respectively. A Mass and luncheon with colleagues was celebrated in his honor on Friday, January 8th, where he offered the following words:
As I conclude my employment here, I want to thank all for their kind words and well wishes. Ten years go by quickly - it is understandable when you love what you’re doing, love who you are doing it with and love the people you are doing it for.
When I began my employment with the Diocese of Brooklyn in September of 2000, thanks to Bishop Daily and Msgr. Bracken, I was given a wonderful opportunity to lead all Stewardship and Development endeavors. It’s always been so much more than a job; it has and always will be a vocation. I have always considered it an honor to steward people’s generosity and to help people accomplish their charitable goals. With the partnership of an extraordinary group of board members and benefactors, and the best staff one could ask for, we have changed many lives. Ironically, no one’s life has been changed more than mine.
It has truly been a privilege and an honor to work with each of you. Each of you have given me a gift, a memory, a life lesson, a faith lesson and/or a charitable example. I have put my heart and soul into this work here but it pales in comparison to what I have received. All of it has been a gift.
You all have been a fundraiser's dream - making it easy for this particular "professional beggar" to ask for funds. Money follows mission and you all bring mission to life.
Being surrounded by those who put others before themselves and with those who commit themselves to mission advancement is truly inspiring. All I can say is that God is good and that I have been truly blessed by your presence in my life.
So, I thank you so very much.
Know you, those you hold dear and your ministry are in my prayers. I ask that you keep me and mine in yours as I begin my work as Vice President of Development, at St. Francis College.
God bless.
